It feels like trauma keeps coming up throughout all parts of your life.

Trauma impacts every part of your life because it impacts your confidence and your sense of hope.

You’ve been let down and beat down, figuratively and literally. In many ways this highlights your resilience and success - you’ve been able to overcome difficult circumstances, you haven’t become an abuser yourself, and many who know you would never guess you’ve experienced trauma.

But it’s always there, and it keeps you from living the life you see others live, the life you want to live.

Childhood emotional abuse and neglect leave behind a powerful residue. These experiences can shape survivors’ attributions of self and perceptions of others, undermine their establishment of healthy attachment relationships, and obstruct their capacity to tolerate the receipt and expression of emotional intimacy.
— Treating Adult Survivors of Childhood Emotional Abuse and Neglect

That’s why I am an EMDR Certified therapist. EMDR therapy is proven to be effective in treating trauma and PTSD.

You need to feel safe in order to truly open up and be yourself, and EMDR allows us to work through your traumatic experiences without requiring that you detail your emotional history. You can gain skills for coping with trauma without rehashing all the painful memories.

Here are some common experiences of trauma that we address through EMDR therapy:

  • Childhood emotional abuse, verbal abuse and neglect

  • Childhood physical and sexual abuse

  • History of being abused in romantic relationships; inter-partner abuse

  • Symptoms of PTSD, such as nightmares, frightening easily, feeling on edge, and flashbacks

Through EMDR therapy you can feel safe, calm, cared for and validated. You can also learn practical tools for addressing overwhelming emotions that come up in everyday circumstances.

I would love to support you in working through trauma and moving forward in your journey toward peace.

More About EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a type of therapy that allows your brain to process traumatic and overwhelming experiences without the need for “talk therapy” or extensive evaluation of the experiences itself. However, you remain fully awake and aware of what is happening and are able to use the experience to learn coping skills for handling overwhelming emotions as they occur in your daily life.

EMDR has been proven to be effective for treating anxiety, PTSD, depression and many other mental health concerns.

Unlike CBT with a trauma focus, EMDR does not involve (a) detailed descriptions of the event, (b) direct challenging of beliefs, (c) extended exposure, or (d) homework.
